Artist Information
Sarah Clegg
Born in St Ives, Cornwall in 1962, where so many of the twentieth century's most celebrated artists had chosen to live and work, it might seem inevitable that Sarah would one day pick up a paintbrush herself. However with a distinctly cosmopolitan childhood, living in Brussels, Rome, Switzerland and France, and a career in heritage marketing on her CV, her true calling only became apparent when Sarah reached her late thirties.
Having presented a watercolour portrait of a child to a friend one Christmas (which she says was 'painted out of sheer desperation' as a last minute gift), Sarah's work was in demand almost straight away. Equine & Canine Portraiture became her speciality and she soon began to build a loyal following amongst the fieldsports and equestrian fraternity in the UK. By 2004, word had spread overseas and commissioned paintings by Sarah now hang in private collections across three continents.
In 2010, Sarah opened a small gallery near Knutsford in Cheshire, where she finally settled in 1985 and now lives with her husband and teenage son. 'The Fieldart Collection' at Plantation promises to be the opening of another chapter in her life, and she hopes to develop this side of her artistic endeavours to include a programme of workshops and events at the Gallery in 2011. Details will be made available on this site in October.
Sarah is an Associate Member of The Society of Equestrian Artists.
